World famous newspaper The New York Times described this pressure cooker as the Mercedes of pressure cookers, and i have to say i agree totally and after reading around on the web it seems everyone who has used this cooker feels the same way. This superb pressure cooker was designed and made by leading makers Kuhn Rikon in Switzerland. They pride themselves on making top quality energy saving pressure cookers, with the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker being one of their best.
The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker is built to make cooking great meals quicker and easier, this pressure cooker helps to preserve all of the goodness in the foods you cook, ensuring nothing is allowed to escape thus infusing your food with maximum flavor. One person named R. Frantz who used the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker said “This is a TIME MACHINE!!! Imagine corn on the cob cooked to perfection in three minutes or whole large beets done to fork tender in eight or large Mexican squash in two minutes. You get the picture. Along with the ability to cook veggies and meats in record time what I like best about this cooker is how quickly it will rise to full (15lb )pressure -10 min – and do its’ thing and then with a slight turn of the knob on the lid drop the pressure down to stop the cooking and let the lid come off in as little as five minutes. Amazing!” This is just one of many people happy with their Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cooker.
Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker Features
The 18/10 stainless steel helps ensure this cooker stays durable and maintains its shine without ever rusting. The base is aluminum and situated between two steel layers.
The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker is actually an upgrade from a previous version with the difference being the primary pressure valve has an added spring loaded valve with rises and falls with the pressure. Little red bands indicate the level of pressure the cooker is at – 1 Band = 8psi 2 Bands = 15psi. A lot of recipes you will come across call for food to be cooked at 15psi, although some foods that are delicate such as fish will be fine at a pressure of 8psi. Having a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker means you can do both with ease.
When you have done cooking this pressure cooker has a pressure release valve on the lid which allows you to release pressure gradually and safely. As with all cookers i advise you have a window open unless your kitchen is fitted with an extractor fan.
You can get this pressure cooker in different sizes, 3.5 quart (approx 4 liters) 5 quart (5.5 liters) and 7 quart (8 liters). The 7 quart version is big enough for a family of 4-6. Whether its fish, vegetables, meats, curries, or something simple like soups you will be able to cook stunning meals with this cooker.
5 Safety releases
- Primary spring loaded valve situated on the lid
- Holes precision drilled into the rim of the lid
- A Secondary spring loaded valve
- The gasket situated in the lid is forced out in such a way that it becomes very tight (it would take a very strong man to pull open the lid.)
- The automatic lid-locking system makes sure that the lid stays locked while cooking and the pressure won’t blast open the lid. This system also makes sure no pressure builds up until the lid is safely locked tightly.
It is suggested by the company that you clean your Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker using your regular dish soap and warm water, while you could get away with putting it in the dish washer i don’t recommend it, personally i have never used the dish washer for any pressure cooker, mainly because they are easy enough to clean in the sink. A good 5 minute soak should be enough to loosen any food stuck in your pot with a sponge. I don’t recommend you hack away at it with any sharp objects.
As with pretty much any pressure cooker you will want to give it a more thorough clean every 5 cooks or so, buy yourself a baby bottle brush, they are very cheap and come in handy. This will aid you to clean the primary valve. The gasket can easily be removed and cleaned in warm soapy water, before placing it back on the rim rub a small amount of oil on the gasket.
Well one thing i am certain of is that the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker is a quality made pressure cooker, care has been taken to ensure maximum safety leaving you with peace of mind. There isnt really anything negative i can say about this pressure cooker, although the price is a tad on the steep side at the time of writing this – 7 quart is $219.99 (£155.94) But im not sure seeing that as a negative point would be right, i mean for what your getting its probably a bargain. This pressure cooker will last you for years maybe even out live you, allowing it to be passed down through the family for them to enjoy.
